My sister thankfully was easy to buy for. She just wanted replacements for the makeup that she has almost used up- a task I am always given regardless of whether or not it is Christmas. My sister isn't a big spender when it comes to makeup so I could find everything I needed at Priceline and to my delight, they have a pretty good promotion on at the moment- recieve $10 off when you spend $60 or more, something very easy to do in such an expensive industry.
I picked up everything I needed and more because let's face it, that $10 off voucher was in my opinion an incentive to spend more money. In order to guarantee that I spent over $60 I started just grabbing stuff off the shelf, one of which was the 'Rimmel London Bold and Bright gift set'. Rimmel was and currently is (until the 15th of December) half price the entire range. The gift set normally retails for $25 despite it including $56.75 worth of product, so that price in inself is incredible, but wait there's more. Because it was half price I got it for $12.50! A bloody bargain!
The set is of great value for $25 and includes 5 best selling products so to get it for $12.50, I really cannot complain. The set features both lip, eye and nail products.
The mascara in the box is the Rimmel Extra Super Lash Mascara, a personal favourite of mine and one of the reasons why I bought the whole kit. It is really separating but volumising and lengthening. It can be used quite dramatically without clumping or can be used for a subtle daytime look just by wiping excess product onto a bit of tissue. It is also a very black mascara which is never a bad thing. The mascara alone is normally worth the same amount as I paid for the whole box.
Another eye product featured is the Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Liner in Jet Black. For me this is the only real let down of the whole thing. The Rimmel Scandaleyes Eye Liners are my favourite eyeliners as they are super creamy and pigmented. This one however isn't apart of the Scandaleyes range and is to me nothing special. It still does the job but no where near as effective as their counterparts. To me it's just a bog standard kohl eyeliner that can be used to line the eyes and the waterline, but multiple applications is required to build intensity.
The kit includes a lip duo- a lip liner and a lipstick. The lip liner is one of my favourite formulas of lip liners full stop, the Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in Red Diva, like all the other shades in the range is hydrating, pigmented and precise. They're really comfortable on the lips and non drying. They help make your lipstick application precise and easy whilst helping the products to stay on for longer- a must have when wearing a bold and bright lip.
I'm a big fan of Rimmel lipsticks. They were some of the first I ever bought myself when I started getting into makeup. The other half of the lip duo is the Only 1 Lipstick in the shade Best of the Best. The lip liner and lipstick are identical in colour which makes them the perfect duo to pull off the classic red lip this Christmas. The colour is a true red, it doesn't lean too blue or too orange, it's a nice inbetween shade that will suit most skin tones. As for the formula, I quite enjoy it, it's comfortable and hydrating on the lips. This is the first shade I have tried from the Only 1 range but I'm impressed and will definitely be looking into more shades. The only downside for me is the scent. I'm not a fan of the strong Rimmel lipstick scent that in universal across all ranges, it's just too strong and takes quite some time to subside.
Finally we have the nail polish. Rimmel nail polishes are just brilliant. I mean what more can I say? They dry super fast, are super opaque on the first coat and the colour range is amazing. The Rimmel 60 Seconds Super Shine Nail Polish in Rapid Ruby is no exception. It's the only red nail polish you really need. Although a slightly deeper shade than the lip products, the nail polish also is the perfect inbetween of blue based red and orange based red, it also looks great on the pastiest to the darkest complexions.
